The chrome ring is used to attach the boot to the factory knob. You could use this boot on a 2005-2007 C6 but you would have to remove this chrome ring. Even with doing this, you would not be able to connect the top of the boot to the bottom of your 2005-2007 knob.

This product can be used to either compliment your existing color or add a contrasting color.

The installation of this boot and knob is very simple, it should not take longer then 5 mins!! Anyone can do it.

If you want this knob and matching boot to fit your C5 Corvette too, you will just need let us know so we can do the mod to the knob, then take the boot off of the C6 plastic ring and attach it to your C5 ring, we do not have instructions for this mod but it can be done.
